Educational Programs

  1. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:
    1. REACH CENTER ScholarsSponsored 10 indigent children with autism with the support of Rotarian Harold Shim from RC Seoul Jeil, South Korea D3640 for 5 years and with MG 64410 valued at $ 28,230.00 of RC Merced for RY 2007-2008
    2. Takeshi Shimizu Scholarship Programa continuing scholarship program to date for poor but deserving students from Camotes Islands, was started in 1993 with RCCF’s Honorary Member Takeshi Shimizu, a World War II veteran from Toyama City, Japan as its benefactor.
    3. Vocational Scholarship Program 1998-99this was implemented during RY 1998­-99 to enable dropouts and out-of-school youth to enroll in vocational courses at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit Vocational School, Cebu City.
    4. Spouses’ Scholarship ProgramThe Rotary spouses have been sponsoring annually the scholarship of a Don Bosco orphan.
    5. Brian Scholars.Some 12 “Brian” scholars have been sponsored for a year by a benefactor who wanted just known as “Brian”.
  2. LITERACY PROGRAM:
    1. Implements regularly its ABCDE Advocacy CaravanABCDE Caravan is Maternal Literacy Project advocating on the different issues affecting the lives of our community members chaired by Rotarians, Spouses and our Partners-In-Service formally launched in 2007. The alphabet stands for different advocacies which conducts an Awareness Campaign:A – Autism Advocacy
      BC – Breast Cancer Advocacy
      D – Dental Care/Diabetes Alert
      E – Education/Environment
    2. Distributed new born literacy kits and backpack dictionary kits.
    3. Turned-over computers, printers and books to San Fernando i.e.: Sangat National High School re: MG 64410 valued at $ 28,320.00 with RC Merced, RC Altwater and Bless the Mind Foundation.
    4. Constructed a concrete multipurpose building in Brgy. Campo Siete, Minglanilla, Cebu to house the “Barangay Campo Siete Day Care Center” which for the last ten (10) years has been providing learning facilities and opportunities to some 40 pre-school children annually. It also doubles as a community health center, manned by hospital-trained volunteer health workers from the Rotary Community Corps of Campo Siete on call basis.
    5. Distributed foreign-donated books and various reading materials to some 12 elementary school libraries in Cebu Province and through the different participating Rotary clubs under the Send-A-Book Program / Books-across-the-seas-program.
    6. Donated computers to Nueva Caceres Elementary school in Oslob, Cebu in cooperation with Glaxosmithkline.
